Lately I haven't been looking at import models as much as I used to when I first started out collecting photos aside from a few names because it's been a while since I've seen someone that I was interested in. I first noticed 22 year-old aspiring model Alexa Le at her blog before I knew she was an aspiring model. AS: So I already know your Chinese and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina from Chicago. Were you born and raised in Chicago?
AL: Yessir!
AS: Are you going to school in North Carolina now?
AL: Currently I'm not. I just recently finished my undergraduate education so I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do with my life.
AS: But I understand you future plans include modeling?
AL: Yes, they do, but my real passion is dance! I'm still trying to find a gig go-go dancing, but there aren't that many around here in Raleigh, so it's been tough.
AS: When did you decide you wanted to pursue modeling and dancing?
AL: Well, it sounds silly, but I've always wanted to be an import model since high school, ever since I saw Fast and the Furious! (laughs)....and I started becoming interested in the go-go dancing in college when I would see them dancing at the clubs in Chicago.
AS: I assume your parents are pretty conservative. Have you told them of your desire to model or go-go dance?
AL: Oh definitely not, they would go nuts!
AS: (Laughs) I see. Think you'll eventually tell them?
AL: Probably not. I think they would prefer not to know, so I'd rather spare them. Anyway, I don't intend on modeling or dancing as my lifelong career choice, but I need to take a risk and do it now, while I'm still young and can, or I might regret it for the rest of my life!
AS: Well I can certainly understand that. So would you consider yourself an exhibitionist to a certain degree?
AL: Yes and no. Yes, in the sense that I feel every one should have the privilege to express their sexuality freely and that my modeling and dancing is my expression of my own sexuality. At the same time, however, my sexuality is not so overpowering (laughs) that I would be comfortable doing any adult style photography or dance.
AS: So you don't think you'd do any nude or semi-nude modeling?
AL: Well, I do quite a bit of lingerie and I might consider doing some implied nude, but I don't think I would ever be comfortable doing full nude.
AS: Are there any well-known models you admire?
AL: Well, to an extent I admire Tila Tequila a lot. I think she's quite an entrepreneur and really made a name out of herself. I think there are few Asian models who are able to crack into mainstream media and the fact that she was able to do so with such creative, unconventiona means, like Myspace, is pretty impressive.
AS: Do you plan on launching your own website in the future?
AL: Hmmm...maybe. I would need some help with that though because I'm rather inept at computers and programming (laughs), but yes, I guess so, eventually.
AS: So what are your hobbies and interests?
AL: I love art and theater. I try to catch as many theatrical performances as I can; Broadway, opera, contemporary dance, etc. Part of what I love most about modeling is the photography; to be able to be a part of art is quite a privilege
AS: Have you ever taken or are you currently taking any dance classes?
AL: Currently I'm not. I have, however, taken ballroom and salsa dance classes. Unfortunately, they weren't very well taught, so I'm still not very good.
AS: So have you ever checked out Asian Sirens before and if so, what do you think of the site?AL: Yes, I have. One of my old boyfriends used to look at this site. I've recognized a few of the girls being featured on here and I always thought, wooow, how lucky! (laughs) I think in general, it's a good site for people to become more familiar with the Asian culture

Classic Glamour Photography: Pacific USA '96 Calendar

Regular readers will know of my boredom with much of the current glamour photography emanating from the US, and as a semi-pro photographer myself (you can see my work at Sachiko McLean's site) I'm not just an armchair critic! So I thought it would be interesting and instructive to do a post about what I consider to be great glamour photography, and what I think makes it great glamour photography. And what better example to use than the photo that introduced many of us to the model who inspired the launch of Asian Sirens? I am of course talking about Sung Hi Lee, and her appearance on the cover of (and inside) Pacific USA's 1996 calendar.

Although Sung Hi had already shot for Playboy by this time, it was her appearance in this calendar that really kick-started her modelling career. Of course you would expect good results from the combination of arguably the top Asian glamour model in the world with arguably the top Asian glamour model photographer in the world (Adam Yurman). But in this case I think the results are even greater than the sum of the parts, as Sung Hi was really in her prime and Adam had gained enough experience by this time to do great work, but still had enough time to make every shot the best he could do. But what exactly is it that makes this photo so great?

Of course every great photo starts with a great idea, and the bright, beautiful, yet simple backdrop of the poppy field certainly makes for a good start. However, Adam and his makeup artist (Anny Kim) really made the most of this in their choice of Sung Hi's bikini. In fact, I think her bikini goes so well with the background that the result is better than if Sung Hi had been nude! Even the lines of the bikini are a perfect match for Sung Hi's body and her pose in the photo. Indeed, the pose itself also makes the most of Sung Hi's body.

Then there's the attention to detail. For one thing, every hair on Sung Hi's head seems to be perfectly placed to make the most of her pose - for example, her hair is swept back in the same direction as her stance. But the piece de resistance has to be the poppies in Sung Hi's hands. This adds a certain delicacy to the photo, and simultaneously draws attention to Sung Hi while linking her with the background. Great stuff!Adam got such great results with Sung Hi that she appeared no less than three times inside the calendar itself, and every photo is a winner. But for my money Sung Hi wasn't the only standout in the calendar - he also got a couple of absolutely sensational shots with Hawaiian model Joy Nakagawa. Check this one out:

Isn't that just beautiful? I really love the drama in this photo - Adam must have reeled off lots of shots to catch her hair blowing so perfectly (or he got very lucky)! Classic glamour photography at its very best. I always thought Joy was one of the most underrated Asian models of all time actually - look out for another post on her soon.

As alluded to above, photography at this level takes a lot of time and effort. And sadly, in the internet age this is usually no longer possible. Personally I'd prefer to join a site with a few thousand great photos rather than a site with a few hundred thousand mediocre ones. After all, how many pics can you look at anyway? But as comsumers have largely opted for quantity over quality, photographers have had to respond to this demand. So whereas before they would only have posted their best shots, they now have to post anything that's just satisfactory.

It has been a while since I wrote an article for Asian Sirens. Work and life has been keeping me busy, but mainly the reason has been because I did not have something to write about that was worth writing an article for, and also because I started a blog that I have been working on. A while back I found out about Moko.cc but didn’t check it out until just recently. Once I started to check it out and see the models that were showcased, it quickly became a site that I needed to write about.

Moko is a hotbed for pictures of gorgeous models. It took me a moment to figure out how to navigate the site since I can’t read Chinese, but once I was able to figure it out I have been coming across one hottie after another who have been mind blowing for the most part. I still can’t pick a favorite model. If I had to pick one, right now it would by Wu Yi Man, but my favorite is anyone wearing the least amount of clothing or rocking a t-shirt that shows the underneath part of their breasts (neathage) and their midsection. Regular readers will know of my disappointment with the seemingly curious choices Vietnam often makes to represent themselves in beauty pageants, but not in the case of Miss World Vietnam 2008 Duong Truong Thien Ly. Interestingly, she only received the title after the original (and IMHO far inferior) winner Tran Thi Thuy Dung was disqualified for being a high school drop-out! She subsequently won the People's Choice Award, but sadly she failed to make the top 15 for the official title. She was also second runner up for Miss Universe Vietnam 2008.

She also happens to be somebody for whom both highly stylised glamour photos and far more natural and realistic photos are available, which ties in pretty nicely with what we've been discussing in the comments recently - examples of both are after the jump.

Korean Singer/Model Da-ham

I first noticed Da-ham (23) two years ago as half of the Korean singing duo "Foxy", and Darius II reminded me of her when he linked to her Cyworld blog in the comments on the entry on Oahm Da-hye.

Da-ham (whose real name according to her Cyworld is Choi Eun-shil and according to her Daum bio is Choi Yea-ram) and her singing partner Gemma (Lee Hwa-young, whose Cyworld is here) are known more for their sex-appeal than their singing talents. In fact, it was hard to find any photos of either one of them actually singing.

In addition to modeling and singing in little more than swimwear, Da-ham also adds some spice to a Korean TV comedy show called "Real Gag".

Translation verbatim from Danwei.org:The Chinese edition of FHM magazine is four years old this month, and to celebrate, they have published a 32 page special and outsize pullout poster, titled 'Olympic epic photo spread - the journey of the sacred flame'. The magazine features four models engaged in combat and sport, with art direction that appears to be inspired by Zhang Yimou historical films.

One of the models is Dai Feifei, who has a blog. She has posted several of the photos to her blog, and written a short post about the photo shoot, translated below.

I was invited to participate in the FHM May issue cover feature which is being published now. Because it's the fourth anniversary of the launch of the magazine, they had really strict requirements for the quality of the content, especially the cover feature.

We used three whole days to shoot it starting really early every morning and shooting until we were exhausted late at night. Of course such hard work and effort has resulted in this epic set photos with an Olympic theme: The journey of the sacred flame.

I hope everyone sees these photos and feels affected by their spirit of bravery and combat and their power, then all the work will have been worthwhile.

There were a couple of things about Ami Tokito that definitely caught my attention.

Firstly there was the glasses...for me, a nice pair of glasses definitely adds a level of sexiness.

Dichen Lachman

The other day I noticed that in the discussion for Fay Hokulani that fellow member Quantum Force asked a question that I have been personally asking myself for a few months now. How come Dichen Lachman hasn't been featured here on Asian Sirens? Well now she has.

For a while I thought that Dichen was already featured here, but searching through the archives turned up nothing on her, therefore I have the pleasure of putting this article together. Dichen is Tibetan and Australian and was born on February 22 just like myself. I'm just a year older than she is. I found out about her a few months ago when I watched the season premiere of Dollhouse on Fox, and was half of the reason why I continued to watch the show throughout this season. I'm also thrilled to hear that the show has been renewed by Fox for a second season which means that I get to check out more of Dichen.

Every time I look at Dichen, I'm dumbfounded at how beautiful she is. Her look is just so unique. Not only that, but she has a pretty hot body as well.

Cassie: Revisited

Cassie was featured before when she first came on the scene back in 2006, but that article only received a few responses. I didn't even know she was Asian until I looked up her bio a few weeks ago or knew that she was featured already until I looked in the archives. Usually I can remember who has been featured on Asian Sirens without looking, so it seems that I missed that article on her.

Recently she's been in the news and back on my radar because of her nude pics that were leaked onto the internet, so I figured I would give her a revisit because I think she is very gorgeous. Maybe you will think the same.

Originally, I was going to scrap this article since Cassie was featured already, but I decided to continue for those that may not know about her, or like me who didn't know she was Asian, or for those that have been living in a cave for the past few weeks and haven't heard the news that her computer was hacked and her nude pics were released on the web.

I first took notice to her when the video for her first single, Me & U came out and was a pretty hot song at the time, but what I couldn't get enough of was checking out her sexy, petite frame, that beautiful smile, and those luscious lips.

Currently she has a new single out off of her forthcoming album entitled Must Be Love with Puff Daddy which I think is alright. And it's unfortunate that her computer was hacked into, but if you don't want anyone to see you naked, then don't take those pictures in the first place. Anyway, here's more photos below. Lately I haven't been looking at import models as much as I used to when I first started out collecting photos aside from a few names because it's been a while since I've seen someone that I was interested in. That was until I found out about Janelle Ha who I think is pretty hot. Hopefully she will pique your interest as well.

I found out about Janelle when I was on Flickr browsing through the pictures that were uploaded by those that are on my contact list. I'm usually on there everyday looking for new pictures, and this one particular day, I came across this picture of Janelle taken by jchennav in a Hankook Tires uniform, and immediately, I needed to find out who she was and begin searching for more photos of her. I think Hankook has the best race queen uniform out of all the companies that I've seen, and she rocks that uni well.

Along with being the face of Hankook Tires USA for 2009, Janelle is also on the cover of the July edition of DSport Magazine which is currently on newsstands. I just picked up my copy on Monday 6/1. I love her smile, dark hair, and lovely figure. I have been fatigued as of late with the heavy makeup/dyed hair look that many models rock, so it's a refreshing change for me to see a model like Janelle.
